What is a Commercial Biogas Plant?

In commercial biogas systems, organic matter such as food waste, agricultural waste and manure are broken down by anaerobic digestion – the breakdown of organic material by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen. As a result, the organic matter is broken down into biogas (a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide) and organic compost used for fertilizer.
